Pre-Opening Event at the UBB
CMESS employees celebrated the move to the University of Vienna Biology Building (UBB) with a soft opening event on September 23rd: The Rectorate and the management of those two university units that are now at least partly based in the UBB – CMESS and the Faculty of Life Sciences – welcomed the employees to the new location in the third district.
Michael Wagner, deputy head of CMESS, emphasised that the new building can contribute "to make a difference" in science. The Vienna COVID-19 Detection Initiative (VCDI) is just one example of the potential the new location offers for professional cooperation, he said. Matthias Horn, who as a user representative has been closely involved in the planning process for the building since 2016, described it as a "work environment that we can equally enjoy and where we can be productive". Both emphasised the key role of many employees in making the move a success: The commitment of many colleagues was by no means a matter of course and therefore deserves special recognition.
