We have previously shown that organic contaminants and heavy metals in soil can be immobilized via sorption on biochar (or activated biochar). Thereby, the biochar type and application rate will depend on the contaminant mixture and soil specific properties. To date these dependencies, especially the effect of soil type on biochar performance remain poorly understood and will be a key aim for KOKOSAN II.
