In the article, lead-authored by Gabriel Sigmund of the Center for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science at the University of Vienna and Ksenia Groh of the Eawag Water Research Institute (Switzerland), the researchers call for closer collaboration between ecology, ecotoxicology and environmental sciences. They provide impetus for closer linkages between research fields to jointly find solutions to threats to planetary health. Such an interdisciplinary approach is pursued by the new Cluster of Excellence "Microbiomes Drive Planetary Health".
